Jesuina Silveira Faria, 94, of 25 Elshant Terrace / 25 Luther Lane Portsmouth, formerly of 19 Lee Avenue Newport, RI, died Friday, August 13, 2004, at the home of her daughter. She was the wife of the late Manuel G. Faria. Born in Horta, Fayal, Azores, on February 11, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Carlos H. and Maria Rodrigues Silveira. Mrs. Faria worked for many years as a seamstress for the former Aquidneck Cottage Industry on School Street in Newport. During WWII she worked at the Newport Torpedo Station then after the war she worked for Monawatt General Electric. Mrs. Faria then went to work as a housekeeper for Mrs. Reginald Rives at her home Seacliff. She was a member of the Women's Benefit Association and served as its financial secretary and the Women's Benefit Association International Club. She was a member, past president, and one of the founders of the Portuguese American Women Civic League. A member of Jesus Saviour Church and its Rosary Sodality. A member of the Holy Ghost / Vasco de Gama Society having served as its first women officer. She is survived by two daughters Clara F. Sullivan of Newport, RI, and Ann F. Elshant of Portsmouth, RI, her sister Irene M. Rodrigues of Newport, RI, five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Joseph H. Silveira, Mary H. Mendes, and Clara H. Mendes.
