Lance Corporal Steven M. Hancock, 20, VMMT-204, MAG-26, 2D MAW, MCAS NEW RIVER, passed away on May 19, 2014 during a training exercise in North Carolina with the United States Marine Corps.

He was born May 24, 1993 in Joliet, Illinois. Steven was raised and educated in Coal City, graduating from Coal City High School with the Class of 2011. He was very active in Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 466 earning his Eagle Scout in 2011.

Steven joined the Marine Corps on March 5, 2012. He was the crew chief of his aircraft V-22 Osprey. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Morris since 1999. An avid outdoorsman, Steven enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his parents, two sisters, his paternal grandparents, and maternal grandfather. Many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Joyce Lietz, and his grandfather, Charles Healy.

Visitation for Lance Corporal Steven M. Hancock will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church located at 455 W. Southmor Road in Morris.

A Celebration of Steven's life will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church with Pastor Greg Bolt officiating.

Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps.

Arrangements have been entrusted with U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home, 301 W Washington Street, Morris, Illinois.
