The only son of US President Chester Arthur to live to adulthood. He went to Columbia law school but did not follow his father into law. Instead he traveled and kept horses. He married Myra Townsend, divorced her in 1927, and then married Rowena Graves in 1934.

In the foreground is the grave marker of Chester Alan Arthur, II which is positioned beside that of his mother, First Lady Ellen Lewis Herndon Arthur.

In the background stands a granite sarcophagus which contains the body of his father, President Chester Alan Arthur. In 1889, a monument was placed on Arthur's burial plot by sculptor Ephraim Keyser of New York, consisting of a giant bronze female angel figure placing a bronze palm leaf on the top of the sarcophagus.

Beside the coffin shaped tomb of his mother, rests the only son of US President Chester Arthur to live to adulthood. He went to Columbia law school but did not follow his father into law.
