Born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Curran Michael and Harriet C. Price Rogers, his family moved to Kyle while he was a boy. He attended schools in the area, then went to college at Southwestern and Vanderbilt Universities. He returned to Kyle and ranched for many years. He married his first cousin Annie Lida Rogers of Kyle on 22 October 1889; the union produced four sons and three daughters: James Curran, Asa Edward, Michael William Jr., Frank Randolph, Annie Lida, Iola Beckman, and Julia Wallace. His first wife died on 12 July 1923 and he married his second, Mrs. Blanche Rucker McKey of Dallas on 11 August 1924. Rogers was active both in his church, Kyle Methodist, and community affairs. He ran successfully for the Texas State Legislature in 1926 and opted not to seek reelection at the end of his first term. In 1927, he moved to San Antonio where he opened a real estate business with friend Carl Francis. On the morning of 15 December 1929, he telephoned his daughter Iola in Austin, told her that he was not feeling well, and asked if she would pick him up and let him stay with her a while. That afternoon she arrived at his residence and found him dead, sitting in a large armchair; he appeared to have died several hours earlier. His body was interred in the Kyle Cemetery two days later with his Methodist pastor Rev. J. E. Morgan conducting the funeral and Baptist pastor Rev. C. W. Haskins assisting.
