The youngest daughter of Aaron Burr, Jr. and his wife, Theodosia Bartow Prevost Burr and the sister of the celebrated Theodosia Burr Alston. Sarah (affectionately called Sally) was named in honor of Aaron Burr's only sibling, Sarah, and she was one of the great lights in the lives of her parents. Her first few months were blessed with abundant health but soon thereafter the little girl began to fade. Despite attempts by the family's physicians to diagnose her illness, Sally died in October, 1788 at the age of three years and four months. Her distraught mother wrote to a friend:

"Variegated have been my scenes of anguish, but this exceeds them all - a tender, affectionate friend just opening into life .... and flushed with health till the sly viper stole upon her vitals, there preyed unperceived .... till too late. All aid proved vain - she passed gently from me to the region of bliss .... yes, my Sally, she is .... gone".

Sally Burr's burial place is currently unknown, although she is most probably interred in one of Trinity Church's burial grounds located in New York City.
