Basurto was a career armored truck robber based out of the Highland Park area. In early February, 1965, him and a partner got away with $110,000 in a daring robbery in East LA. He escaped from Chino four years later, and continued his old habbits.
In July, 1969, Basurto robbed an armored car at a supermarket in Downey and shot and wounded a security guard. Hershel E. Moore, 31, remembered the gunman and in July, 1971, came face to face with him at the Boys Market in Highland Park, 5515 Monte Vista Ave. He was pointing his gun at him. Moore drew his revolver and fired at his previous assailant, killing him.
