One night around the campfire, Barber got his captives drunk with cognac that he had smuggled to him. They passed out and him and Pedro tied up the rebels and killed four of them. They took horses with them and rode to a nearby town.
Barber went on to have a successful life as a geologist and scientist. He died in a nursing home in Tujunga, CA.
