William Chapman Aitken, age 92 died April 9, 2010 in Colorado Springs, CO.

There will be no service. Cremation is planned. Burial will be at the Precint Cemetery in Earlville, IL. He was born August 19, 1917 in Earlville, IL to Clyde and Georgia Chapman Aitken. He spent his youth in California and returned to Earlville, IL at the age of ten years at the time of the death of his mother.

He attended college at North Central in Naperville, IL and took specialized training in airplane and aircraft mechanics at the Aeronautical University in Chicago, IL. Upon graduation he applied for, and obtained, federal aircraft and engine licenses.

In 1940 he accepted employment with Trans World Airlines where he remained for 35 years as lead mechanic until retirement in 1975. On June 24, 1955, he married Evelyn Martha Stalter of Leland, IL. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout their married life via Trans World Airlines.

Upon retirement, at the age of 58 years, he and his wife moved to Colorado Springs, CO where they became accomplished golfers, entering numerous Senior Golf Association of America tournaments.

In retirement, he became active in many organizations. He was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, a member of Marseilles Lodge No. 417 in Marseilles, IL; a life member of the Al Kaly Shrine of Pueblo, CO; a life member of the Sons of the American Revolution; a life member of the OX5 Pioneer Aviation; a life member of the Confederate Air Force; a life member of the American Legion No. 1339, Gilbertsville, NY; and a life member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

He paraded a 1964 Corvair in the Kalyvair unit of the Al Kaly Shrine of Pueblo, CO as well as the Veterans Day Parades in Colorado, for various high school homecomings and for the Colorado Springs Christmas Parade of Lights. He and his wife paraded a 1921 Model T Ford at the Del Monte sponsored National Sweetcorn Festival held in Mendota, IL.

Mr. Aitken is survived by his wife, Evelyn.
