Connie Kunzmann grew up playing sports for the Everly Cattlefeeders and then played basketball and softball at Wayne State University in Wayne, Nebraska. She played in the Women's Basketball League from 1978 to 1981. She played for the Iowa Cornets her first two seasons. After the Cornets folded, she played for the Nebraska Wranglers. On February 6, 1981, Kunzmann was at Tiger Tom's, a bar in northwest Omaha, and met at acquaintance. Later, after the bar closed, they took off together in his truck, went to a lovers lane adjacent to a nearby cemetery. The two fought inside the truck, and Kunzmann ended up being stabbed and bludgeoned to death. The acquaintance drove to Dodge Park and dumped her body into the Missouri River. He confessed to police a few days later. Her body wasn't found for another seven weeks.
