Composer, musician. He met Rafael Cortijo, Ismael Rivera and Daniel Santos while growing up in Santurce. Most of his thousands songs had social and romantic themes related to the Afro-Caribbean community in the island of Puerto Rico. About two hundred of his songs were hits. His song "Las caras lindas", recorded by Ismael Rivera, is considered a classic. In addition to salsa titles he also composed samba ones. At one time his music was banned from Puerto Rican radio stations for political reasons. After his death in the mainland, Curet Alonso was given a state funeral in Puerto Rico. The wake was held at the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture with an honor guard, then at Puerto Rico's Capitol building in San Juan and finally at San Juan City Hall.
