Petar "Press" Maravich (August 29, 1915 – April 15, 1987) was an American college and professional basketball coach. He received the nickname "Press" for always having gossip-styled updates in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, a Pittsburgh suburb where he was raised. Maravich Sr. also served in the United States Naval Air Corps during World War II.
Despite a long career as a coach, Maravich may best be remembered as "Pistol" Pete Maravich's father. Maravich graduated from Davis & Elkins College in 1941 and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.
Peter Press Maravich, St., 71, of. Indian Rocks Beach, FL died April 15 at Highland Park Hospital in Covington. He was a native of Aliquippa, PA and a resident of Indian Rocks
Beach for the past five years.
Funeral services were held April 18 at Wildwood Chapel in Aliquippa with the Rey. Nick Radovich officiating. Interment was in St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church Cemetery in Aliquippa. Local arrangements were by Schoen Funeral Home.
He was the husband of the late Helen A. Maravich and the father of Ronnie Maravich of New Orleans and Peter "Pete P. Maravich, Jr. of Covington and Diana Marie
Maravich of Indian Rocks Beach. He is also survived by two grandchildren.
