Maxine Elizabeth Morrison, 88, died Thursday (March 18, 2004) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
She was born Sept. 18, 1915, to John F. and Jessie (Martin) Hepp in Greeley. She was raised in Greeley and graduated from Greeley High School in 1933. She attended Central Nebraska College in Central City. She began teaching in the rural schools at Wolbach and Greeley.
On June 28, 1935, she married Frank B. Morrison. The family resided in Stockville where Frank was county attorney of Frontier County. They moved to McCook in 1942, where they made their home until they moved to Lincoln in 1955. She was a fashion director for Golds Department Store. Her husband served as the governor of Nebraska from 1960-1967. As First Lady of Nebraska she chaired the National Governors Wives Association and she led the first Nebraska Trade Mission to Europe. The couple returned to McCook in 1997, where they were part-time residents until moving permanently in 2003.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Leona Luther in 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Frank B. Morrison of McCook; two sons, Frank "Biff" Morrison and wife, Sharon of Whitefish, Mont., and David Jon Morrison of Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter, Jean Marie and husband, Dr. Ben Galloway of Aurora, Colorado; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday, 1 p.m., at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook with the Rev. R. Samuel Williams officiating.
Inurnment will be in St. Alban's Columbarium.
