New Testament scholar, author, and a leading figure within the biblical egalitarian movement, died Feb 14, 2011 after a brief illness. She was a resident of Brewster, MA. The daughter of Homer and Elizabeth Clark, she was born December 12, 1925 in St. Paul, MN. Dr. Kroeger graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1947 and married her husband of 60 years, Richard Clark Kroeger, in 1950. They served together in ten pastorates in five states. After raising five children she resumed her education, receiving a PhD in Classical Studies in1987 from The University of Minnesota. She served as Protestant chaplain and lecturer in the Department of Religion at Hamilton College. Dr. Kroeger was a ranked adjunct professor of classical and ministry studies at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, where she taught from 1990 until her death. She authored, co-authored or edited thirteen books, including The IVP Women's Bible Commentary. Dr. Kroeger was the founding president of Christians for Biblical Equality and president of Peace and Safety in the Christian Home. She served in leadership roles in many other organizations, and served on the Board of Trustees at Trinity Christian Academy and the Latham Center on Cape Cod, and at Whitworth College in Spokane, WA. She held membership of the American Academy of Religion, The Society of Biblical Literature, and the Evangelical Theological Society. She was an active layperson in the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA). She was cited in Helen Kooiman Hosier's 100 Christian Women Who Changed the 20th Century, and received an honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Houghton College in 2004. She is survived by her five children, Paul Kroeger, Robert Kroeger, Elizabeth Kroeger Elliott, Marjorie Kroeger and Mary Kroeger, as well as their spouses and ten grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in November, 2010. A funeral service will be held at Brewster Baptist Church, Brewster, MA on Saturday, February 19 at 2:00 pm.
