DAVENPORT — Memorial services for Clarence "Kay" Beeman, 86, of Davenport, were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008, at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Graveside services with military honors were at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. Cremation rites were accorded, as was his request.

Mr. Beeman died on August 31, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, in Davenport.

Clarence Kay Beeman was born in Corsica, Pa., on November 7, 1921, the youngest of seven children born to Seline Cordova Beeman and Anna Louise (Walters) Beeman.

Clarence married Hattie Clement Meadows in Hollywood, Fla., on August 14, 1943. They lived briefly in California while Clarence served in the military and moved to Iowa after his military service was completed. During World War II he served in the United States Navy as a B-29 navigator and bombardier flying on many missions throughout the Pacific Theater. Clarence graduated with a bachelor's degree in Engineering from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, and following his military obligations, received his master's degree in Design Engineering from Iowa State University, Ames.

Clarence worked as Chief Engineer for 23 years at the former J I Case Company in both Burlington and Bettendorf, Iowa. He later worked at the Rodman Laboratory at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1987.

Clarence was a 50-plus year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, where he had served many years as a Sunday school teacher and both as a deacon and an elder.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hattie; a son, David, of Davenport; two grandsons, Ryan and Justin, and a great-granddaughter, Gracie, all of Sherrard, Ill.
