Born Aug. 13, 1949, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Mariano Del Valle and the late Carolina Gomez.

Jose Juan graduated from Juan Ponce De Leon High School in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1967, and then joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Shadwell.

He married Gladys Baez on May 25, 1974, in Santurce, Puerto Rico. The couple resided in Puerto Rico for eight years before moving to South Carolina in 1982. During his military career, they lived in Florida, Maryland, and Virginia, before settling in the Corinth area in 1990.

In 1981, he reenlisted into the U.S. Navy, serving for a total of 20 years until his Navy retirement. He served in an aviation squadron and as a Corpsman on the USS Coral Sea and the USS Opportune, eventually being promoted to Chief Hospital Corpsman while assigned to the Navy Clinic in Ballston Spa, N.Y.

Following his Navy retirement, Jose was employed at Tribune Media Services in Queensbury and Glens Falls, in international customer service for 15 years until his recent retirement.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Gladys Del Valle of Corinth, daughter, Ileana Del Valle of Seattle, Wash.; son, Alexander Juan Del Valle of Corinth; two brothers, Mario Del Valle, and his wife, Judith, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and Ivan Del Valle, of Kissimmee, Fla.; four nephews; and two nieces.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Densmore Funeral Home Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth, with the Rev. Isaias Mateo officiating.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Members of Horace D. Washburn American Legion Post No. 533 of Corinth, will conduct a service at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests donations in Jose Juan's name go to American Cancer Society, 959 Rt. 9, Queensbury, NY 12804 or The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
