Mattheus Reindert de BRUYNE was born Octobert 9th. 1895 in TERNEUZEN in HOLLAND (Europe).

After finishing High School He started His Militairy Career as young Cadet Infantry Officer.

July 25th.1917 promoted to Second Lieutenant and 4 years later,(1921),to First Lieutenant.

After a Test Year,He changed over from the Infantry to the ROYAL DUTCH MARINECORPS and on August 8th.1922 appointed as
First Lieutenant Royal Dutch Marines and followed by a Course for Militairy Sports:Boxing-Wrestling and Athletics.

August 1923 He was appointed as Instructor at the Royal Navy Sportsschool in WILLEMSOORD and at the Navy School
for Cadet Navy Officers.(KIM)

Mei 1924 He was appointed on Board of the Navy Artillery-Instructionship "Hr.Ms.GELDERLAND" for a Artillary Course.

November 1924 He left for the Dutch Dominions in the East-Indies and at arrival appointed a board of the Navy Cruiser"Hr.Ms.Zeven Provincien",March 1927, because of the Communist troubles,at the Marines Barracks in SOERABAJA.

December 1927 He went back to HOLLAND and was appointed as Chief Instructor at the Navy Sportsschool.

1929 He was promoted to Captain Royal Dutch Marines.

November 1930 appointed at the Higher Armed Forces School.

September 1931 appointed as Instructor Tactics at the Navy High School for Cadet Officers and also appointed as a Member of Sea Court-Martial.

December 1934 He was Commander of the Marines who act as part of the International Law and Order Troops to secure the Elections in the SAAR Area (Germany).

May 1937 He was appointed for a Second stay in the Dutch East-Indies Dominions as FIRST Officer at the Marines Barracks "Goebeng" in SOERABAJA.

One year later,(May 1th.1938),He was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel and Commander of the"Goebeng" Barracks and also to President of the Navy Sea Court-Martial in the East-Indies.

August 1941,6 Months before the outbreak of the War in the East-Indies with Japan,He was called back to Europe by the Dutch Government in LONDON to be appointed to Chief of Central Intelligence Service and He sailed with the Steamship "TANIMBAR" from the East-Indies, via the United States,to England.He worked there untill June 1942.

From June 1942 untill May 1943 He was appointed to arrange the Comeback of the Dutch Government to HOLLAND after the War.

August 16th.1943 He started the Organization of The Princess Irene Brigade to be ready for D-DAY, the Landings of the Allied Forces at the Coast of the Normandy.

On His own request He finished this Job because of the troubles with the Dutch Minister of Defence.

Short after that He left to the United States and stayed in Washington He received orders to organize the Birth of The First Dutch Royal Marines Brigade.

October 1th.1945 He was appointed to Command this Brigade in Camp Davis and in November 1945 He left with the First Marines Batallion to the East-Indies and they arrived in TANDJONG PRIOK.

March 15th.1946 the Brigade was sent to SOERABAJA and took over the Defence of this Harbourtown from the British 5th. Indian Division.

July 1946 in Command of the so called A-Division and EAST-JAVA.

September 1th.1946 promoted to General-Major Royal Dutch Marines.

In charge of the EAST-JAVA Command untill October 1947.

During this Command the First anti-terrorist Actions took place,(1e Politienele actie),2 Big Amphibian Landing Operations, at PASIR POETIH and in the MENENGBAY.

The result was that the Marines had back the control of a very big part of EAST-JAVA.

March 1th.1948, after He returned to HOLLAND,appointed as Commander of the Royal Dutch Marine Corps and Februari 16th.1953 He was promoted to Lieutenant-General.

His active Service for His Country and the Royal Dutch Marine Corps came to an end November 1th.1953 when He retired.

He was a "BRAVE REAL IRON MARINE",an HONEST Officer and a very good Organizer.

A Marine in the best Tradition of the Royal Dutch Marine Corps,founded December 10th.1665 by Admiral Michiel,Adriaanszoon de RUYTER.

The OLDEST Marine Corps in the World !!

General de Bruyne was awarded with many High Dutch and Foreign Decorations.

General de BRUYNE died October 13th.1973 in the Village RENKUM in HOLLAND and is buried on the Local Cemetery.
