Halbe BRANDSMA was born on December 3, 1923 in a Village called DOEZUM-GROTEGAST in HOLLAND.

On July 3, 1945, Halbe started as volunteer Marine 3rd Class in the ROYAL DUTCH MARINE Corps and He was transferred to Basic Training Centre Camp Lejeune in the USA.

On November 1, 1945, he was promoted to temporary Corporal Royal Marines.

In the beginning of the year 1946, Halbe was already known for His Courage and vigorous actions against Terrorists in the DUTCH EAST-INDIES.

On May 2, 1946, near NGEMBOENG and KEMENDOENG(East-Java), Halbe saved the life of a wounded Buddy through defending Him, when he was attacked by three terrorists armed with Sables and Bayonets. During this Brave Action, Halbe was wounded on several spots of His body by this Terrorists.

Promoted to Corporal Royal Marines on March 10, 1952.

Halbe left the Marine Corps before that Date, on May 1, 1948.

By Queens Order #29 of July 17, 1947, Halbe received the Highest Decoration of HONOR "The Militaire Willemsorde" in short Words "MWO (Military Williams Order).

Soldiers but also Generals or Admirals have to salute the bearer of this Decoration!

Halbe died July 7, 2000 in His Hometown, BARENDRECHT in HOLLAND.

His Funeral took place with Military Honours and Halbe is buried on the Cemetery in MARUM - HOLLAND, close to the place where He was born.
