The untimely death of Danny Broussard, the 19 year old son of
Jack and Eva Jo Eason Broussard of Pine Prairie, has saddened the
small Louisiana community in which he grew up. Young Broussard
died tragically in a traffic accident, on Saturday, August 14, in
Mittie, near the Dry Creek Baptist Encampment. He was returning
home from the encampment, when his motorcycle was struck by
another vehicle.
Discovered at the accident scene by a La. State Trooper, was his
treasured Bible. It was opened to the 23rd Psalm. Even in his
death, the young Christian man was a witness.
Danny is survived by his parents; two brothers, Morgan Broussard
of Hot Springs, Ark., and Jeff Broussard of Pine Prairie; two
sisters, Amy, and Kristi Broussard of Pine Prairie; his paternal
grandparents, the late John Morgan and Mabel Broussard of Pine
Prairie; and maternal grandparents, Frank Eason and the late
O'Leta Eason of Many.
Danny was a 1992 graduate of Pine Prairie High School, where he
was a campus leader in numerous activities. In addition, he
attended the Evangeline Parish Gifted and Talented Program for
six years. He was the recipient of many awards at the local,
state, and national level. He was an active member of the
Substance Abuse Prevention Education Program for four years,
teaching children how to avoid drugs and alcohol. A Peer Leader
at the state level, he attended summer camps, working with
teenagers all over the state.
Danny was an accomplished musician, serving as a member of the
Pine Prairie High School Band, as well as the Evangeline Parish
Honor Band.
During his senior year, he was elected by his peers, to serve as
King of Homecoming. In addition, in his senior year, he continued
to be a member of the Beta Club, Yearbook Staff, Future Farmers
of America, and attended the Literary Rally. As a graduating
senior, he ranked in the top 10 percent of the nation,
academically. He received the Beta Club Award, the American
Legion Citizenship Award, the La. College Presidential
Scholarship, the La. State Board of Regents Award, and the Pine
Prairie High Alumni Scholarship Award. His senior honors also
included being selected as Most Likely to Succeed, Most
courteous, Campus Leader, FHA Beau, and Best Dressed.
He was instrumental in organizing a daily prayer group at his
school.
Danny completed his freshman year at Louisiana College in
Pineville this spring. There, he was an honor student. He was a
member of the Union Board, S.W.A.T. Team, and played trumpet in
the Jazz Band. He was active in all campus activities.
Danny served as a councilor at the Dry Creek Baptist Encampment
this summer. In addition to all of his academic accomplishments,
he was a devoted Christian. He was loved and respected by all
with whom he came in contact. He was friendly, kind, and loving.
He never "preached" to people to convert them. He didn't "tell"
them how to live for God, he showed them how to do it by living
as an example.
Danny gave his life doing what he loved best, working for God.
He had completed the summer camp, and was enroute home, when the

Because of his devotion to youth ministries, and his love for
Louisiana College. Danny's parents are establishing the Danny
Broussard Memorial Scholarship Fund, so that in some way, he will
live on in the work he began.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 16, at 3 p.m., at
the First Baptist Church of Pine Prairie, with burial following
in the Friendship Cemetery. The young man's first pastor, the
Rev. Mike Anderson, now of Bridge City, Tex., officiated at the
services, which were attended by over 600 people, including local
friends, and children, and their parents from all over the state,
who knew him through his travels in the fight against drugs, and
from his church work.
In addition to his first pastor, his current pastor, the Rev.
David Plunkett; his college roommate, Brandon Dubruc of Oakdale;
his high school principal, Terry Ardoin, and his camp supervisor,
Curt Isles of Dry Creek, shared memories of the young man.
Songs were sung by his church choir; his youth leader, Jeff
Jenkins; his classmate, Sharon Jenkins; his music teacher, Mr.
Steve Smith; and his cousin, Mr. Aaron O'Neal.
Pallbearers were Eric Johnson, Brandon Fuller, Jody Nabours,
Brandon Dubroc, Roy Paul, Quinton Cole, Billy James Johnson, and Michael Anderson.
