Journalist and reporter. Writer and columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer from 1943 to 1985. He became the newspaper's first televison and radio critic in 1948, and went on to become an editorial columnist from 1962 until his retirement in 1985. He wrote nine books, including "Cleveland, the Best Kept Secret" (1967), "Laughter From the Rafters" (a compilation of his columns), 1968, "Stars in the Water, the Story of the Erie Canal" (1974) and "Yesterday's Cleveland" (1976). A virtual encylopedia of Cleveland history, he won numerous awards, including the Ohioana Award for history, the Women's City Club of Cleveland Award for Literature and the Burke Award for Literature. A member of the Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame.
