"Racing driver. Born in Rome, Italy, the youngest of three sons of a wealthy Italian diplomat, he became a gentleman sportsman being talented at shooting fencing and horse riding. However he became interested in motor racing following the example of his brothers. In 1952 he finally managed to pursuade a brother to lend him a car and he could show his true potential. By 1953 Maserati decided to offer three young drivers the chance to drive their sportscars, with Musso being one of the lucky ones. He repaid their faith in him by winning the Italian Chamionship that year. For 1954 he had the occasional drive in an F1 Maserati with some success but moved to Ferrari in 1956 and gained podium paces in Argentina, Sebring 12hrs and the Mille Miglia. This success was marred by a big crash in Germany when he was injured. He continued with Ferrari in 1957 but at the French GP at Reims, he was chasing his team mate, Mike Hawthorn, when he left the road and was flung from the car. Seriously injured, he died later that day.
