Mother Brown was born the sixth of ten children,in Armstrong county of Waelder, Texas to the late Grant and Medora Derry. After graduating from Waelder High School, she attended Guadalupe College and taught public school for several years. On April 3, 1932, she married Robert E. Brown. They were married 72 1/2 years prior to his death in October 2004. To their union were born three sons. Mother Brown joined the West End Baptist Church on April 10, 1932 and remained a faithful member until her death. For more than 35 years she was the Sunday School Teacher of the Intermediate Boys Class. She also founded and worked with the Condolence Committee of the church, ministering to those members grieving the loss of loved ones. Left to cherish Mother Brown's memory are two sons, Robert III (Lenora) and Charles (Kay Frances Tanner); 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Clayborne; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
