A native of Sopramonte, municipality of Trento, Italy, Fra Francesco Agostini OFM. Cap., was born Cirillo Agostini in 1917, the youngest of eight children. Joining the Capuchin Fathers in 1939, he soon became a well known figure across Trento.
For 65 long years Fra Francesco served as questant, touring all Trento on foot, humbly asking for so many times, "un pane per amor di Dio", as eleemosynary for the convent. In all those years, he only interrupted this duty for one year, between 1943 and 1944 when his superiors transferred him and his fellow brethren to the convent of Terzolas due to the dangers of the Second World War.
His warm smile and gentle words of advice rendered him a popular figure across the city of Trento, where he lived for most of his life. He was only transferred to the Capuchin infirmary of Rovereto in his later months due to health reasons.
It was there that the "El Frate della Zerca", as he was affectionately called by many, passed peacefully away at the venerable age of 94, on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
His funeral Mass, which was held at the Chiesa di San Lorenzo on Thursday, January 5, at 14 hrs., saw the participation of many. Fra Francesco was laid to rest at the Cimitero di S. Marco of Rovereto in the Capuchin plot.
