Allin "Shorty" Dale Acker, 84, passed away August 8, 2014 at Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater.
Services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday August 16, 2014 at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Sardis Cemetery. Visitation was Friday evening from 6:00-7:00 at the funeral home.
Born March 9, 1930 in Rotan, TX, Shorty was the son of the late Mozelle (Fancher) and Forrest Acker.
Shorty graduated from Rotan High School and served his country during the Korean War.
He married Wanda Jean (Simmons) on October 20, 1953 in Clovis, New Mexico.
Shorty was a cowboy for the Cargill Feedlot in Dalhart, TX for twenty-five years and moved back to Rotan in 1982.
He enjoyed golfing, wood crafting and competition roping.
Shorty was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Shorty is survived by his wife Wanda Acker of Rotan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Forrest Dale and Brenda Acker of Stratford, TX and Gary and Annette Acker of Bronte, TX; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dihna and Monte McKinney of Rotan, Lisa and Robert Gomez of Mineral Wells, TX, and Carol and Brad Boyd of Roby; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
