MASON CITY - R.W. "Butch" Authier, 58, of Mason City, died Thursday (May 6, 2010) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, May 11, 2010, from 9 a.m. until noon at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. Guests are invited to wear Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Twins attire. The family invites friends to join them at 2 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 22 Fourth St. N.W. in Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to the R.W. "Butch" Authier Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Butch was born on Dec. 17, 1951, in Algona, the son of Rene and Naomi (Murray) Authier. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1970 before attending North Iowa Area Community College and the University of Northern Iowa, eventually earning a B.A. degree in accounting in 1991.

Butch was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to the Green Bay Packers (while hating the Vikings) and The Minnesota Twins. He collected many sports cards over the years. He loved his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed any kind of puzzle, hard work that involved his hands, and drinking. As he liked to put it, "He was an Authier." He will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him.

Butch is survived by his five children, Heather and husband, Adam Bates and children, Lexus and Logan Beier, Hayley and husband, Matthew Behrends and their children, Emma and Cohen, Shane and wife, Sara Authier and children, Hailey Piper and Parker and Ellie Authier, Heidi and husband, Anthony Pridemore and children, Robert and Rayne, Hillary Authier and her son, Dominick Mason; two sisters, Anita and husband, Terry Darlington and their son, Terry Lee Jr., and his son, Ayden Darlington, Donna and husband, Les Hustand and son, Chris Hughes and wife, Dawn, and their children, Kailea and Matthew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Michaelle Darlington; and nephew, Chad Hughes.

Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 641-423-0924.
