Jazz Musician, Bandleader, Ollie was considered by many as one the most versatile, talented, trumpeter in the American history. Oliver Edward Mitchell was born in Los Angeles California. As a young boy his father Harold Mitchell a lead trumpeter for the MGM Studio taught Ollie how to play the trumpet. Ollie played for many great musicians such as Harry James, Perez Prado, Buddy Rich, and Herb Alpert.He was also a member of NBC Symphony Orchestra; in addition Ollie played the lead trumpet in many recording sessions, from Elvis Presley to Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Mamas and the Papas, Nat King Cole,and many other notable artists. In 1995 Ollie moved to the Puako, in the Big Island of Hawaii with his wife Nancy.He started a band called Olliephonic Horns a non profit band promoting education for the young students, and also helped keeping the Big-Band era music alive. Ollie suffered from Macular Degeneration and died of cancer in Hawaii.
