Henrietta Alston Black-Arnold, age 87, passed away in the Primrose Retirement Community on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 4:10 a.m. She was born to the late William J. and Annie L. (Clapp) Black on January 11, 1924 in Marietta, GA.

Henrietta married Calvin C. Arnold in Kansas City, Kansas on February 11, 1949 and he preceeded her in death on July 20, 2008 in Marion. She was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church. She was an avid bridge player and excelled in the game. Moving here in 1950 from Kansas City, KS the Marion resident leaves behind many close friends at the Primrose Retirement Community whom she cosidered her extended family. For several years, Henrietta worked as an airline stewardess for TWA before marrying Calvin.

Surviving are a daughter; Henrietta (Joseph) Whelan of Sandusky, OH; six grandchildren, Conor (Brandy) Whelan, Shawn (Susan) Whelan, Cameron, Joseph, Abbe, & Trevor Whelan, four great grandchildren; son-in-law; James Whelan of Marion; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death along with her parents and husband by a daughter, Anne Whelan; and a sister, Ruth Bishop.
