He was married May 22, 1948, to Mary Edith Doty Barnett, who survives. They were married 67 years. He was a retired tool and die maker in Detroit, MI. He moved back to Paris in early 1970's & opened Keepsake Gallery. He had a passion for gardening & woodworking, was an award winning cook, an artist & actor. He was proudest of his philanthropic work in missionary trips to Haiti, South American, Japan, & World Changers in Memphis, TN as a member of First Baptist Church. He formerly was a 32nd degree Shriner, a member Henry County Historical Society, served on the Henry Co. Fair Board.
Besides his wife survivors include: two Daughters, Mariann Black of Paris, Tenn., Brenda Lea (Steven) Dudzinski of Rougemont, N.C., a sister: Dorothy Veazey of Paris, Tenn., a brother Dorris Barnett of Paris, Tenn., Grandchildren: Sebastian Black , Alex Dudzinski and David Dwight (Jess) Dudzinski and a great grandchild: Sophia Dudzin
Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son James Douglas “Jim” Barnett in 2008 and a brother Thomas Barnett.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St. - P.O. Box 788, Paris, Tenn., where the family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2015 the funeral service will be at LeDon Chapel Ridgeway Funeral Home at 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2015, with Scott Shepherd officiating.
Interment will be at Olive Branch Cemetery in Cottage Grove, Tenn.
