On the evening of April 23rd, 1934, Civillian Conservation Corps worker Eugene Boiseneau of Mellen, Wisconsin, and two companions had dinner at the Little Bohemia Lodge in Manitowish Waters. Unbeknownst to them, John Dillinger and his gang were also there, using the lodge as a temporary hideout. When Mr. Boiseneau and his companions attempted to leave, their car was fired upon by FBI agents, who thought the three men were members of the Dillinger gang. Mr. Boiseneau was killed instantly, his two companions survived. Dillinger and his gang escaped into the surrounding woods and managed to evade their pursuers.
