Italian writer, born at San Luca, Calabria, died at Rome. Journalist for "La Stampa" and the "Corriere della sera". In 1925 co-signer of the anti-fascist manifesto initiated by Benedetto Croce. Most famous for his 1930 novel "Gente in Aspromonte", a collection of stories describing poverty in his Calabrian homeland. Buried at Vallerano, a village in Viterbo province (Latium region).
