A beloved mother, grandmother, and daughter, Beverly Mildred Dege Decker was the daughter of Adolph Henry Dege and Beulah Eva Klopp Dege.

As a young girl she traveled with her parents to Cincinnati, Ohio, where her father opened a restaurant and she began grade school. After a few years, her parents moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the family joined Aunt Mildred Klopp Sands and her husband, Charles. After Mildred's death of tuberculosis in 1936, the family moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where her father opened the Westheight's Café near 18th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

She attended Wyandotte High School while working for her father in the restaurant. She met Kenneth DeWayne Decker in early 1943 having been introduced to him by her best friends, Betty and Rosalie DeNota, Kenneth's cousins. They were married by Brother Evan Fry on Sunday afternoon, November 14, 1943, at Chelsea RLDS Church in Kansas City, Kansas.
