Irene P. Bakes, of Norwalk, died at her home on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the age of 77. She was born in Stamford, CT on September 28, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Perkowski and Tessie Zaleski Perkowski.

Irene worked for Cook's Laboratory in Glenbrook for 27 years prior to her retirement.

Mrs. Bakes is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Louis J. Bakes of Norwalk, CT; a sister Hedwig (Hedy) De Bone of Norwalk, CT; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lucy Toscano and three brothers, Joseph, John, and Edward Perkowski.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Whittingham Cancer Center and to the Mid-Fairfield County Hospice group for the genuine care and support they provided to Mrs. Bakes while caring for her the past four years.

Family will receive relatives and friends on the morning of Monday, March 2nd from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 369 Washington Blvd., in Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at the Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, in Westport, CT.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mrs. Bakes' memory may be made to the: Whittingham Cancer Center, 34 Maple Street, Norwalk CT 06856 (www.norwalkhospital.org ) OR, the Mid-Fairfield County Hospice group ( www.visitingnurse.net ).
