In 1927 when Neil Allen was born he was the fourth child of John and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Allen. His older siblings were Reba, Rachel and James. The family lived in Lawrence County, Tennessee where all the children were born but mom and dad were both born in Alabama.
On April 17, 1930 when the Lawrence County, Tennessee census was taken the family was found living in the Iron City community where his dad, John 38 was a night watchman for the flooring mill and his mother, Lizzie, was 35 and at home with the children, Reba was 15, Rachel was 12, James was 9 and Neil was 2.
1940 finds Neil age 12, living with his parents, John now 48, Lizzie now 45, but she is listed as Estella E. Allen and not Lizzie... Neil is the only child at home, his older siblings are now out on their own. His grandmother Eugenia Allen, 66 and a widow lives with the family who still resided in Iron City, Lawrence County, Tennessee.
The US World War II Army Enlistment Records shows that Neil Allen was born in Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1927. At 19 he enlisted as a Pvt. on May 8, 1946 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. At the time of his enlistment he said he had 4 years of high school and that he is single with no dependents. His release date was June 1, 1947.
Two years later he married Laura Louise Brackeen, daughter of Aaron Alfred and Mary B. Weir on February 5, 1949, in Madison, Alabama. There are two children still living that were born to this couple.
In 1958 the US City Directories for Nashville, Tennessee finds Neil and his wife Laura Louise B Allen living at 2705 Brightwood Ave where Neil is an underwriter for the National Life and Accident Ins Company and in 1959 and 1960 the city directory finds them living at 1027 Battlefield Drive in Nashville, Tennessee. In both of these directories Neil is still an underwriter for National Life & Accident Ins. Company. Laura Louise is listed as Louise. On July 1, 1977 Laura Louise Brackeen Allen buried her husband at the age of 49, a victim of cancer.
