Son of Birthe Kirstine Larsen and Hans Petersen Andersen. He was the eighth of nine children. At the time of Jacob's birth the family lived in Blans, a small farming village in the southern part of Denmark. In Oct. of 1881 Jacob and his younger brother Jens, immigrated to the United States. While living in Staatsburg near Hyde Park, NY he met and married an immigrant from Bristol, England named Edith Annie White in Sept. of 1882. Jacob and Annie's family began with a son, Edward, next came Henry Charles, named after Annie's grandfather, then came Bertha Christine named for Jacob's mother. Around 1890 they decided to move to Franklin, LA where they had their second daughter, Emma Edith, then came Alice Vivian, followed by William Anthony, named for Annie's father, then Margaret Anne Lillian, Catherine Louise and finally Thelma Ethel Anderson. Jacob's older brother Peter and youngest brother, Jens also settled in Franklin. According to census records these three Anderson brothers were all grocers.

[In an obituary written about Jacob in 1929, it was stated that he opened Anderson's Grocery Store around 1881, this seems inaccurate since they wouldn't have been here in Franklin until about 1890 and according to passport information he gave, he had only immigrated to America in October of 1881 and as mentioned above, settled near Hyde Park, NY.]

[It has come to light that Jacob Anderson had an extramarital relationship in the late 1890s early 1900s with a woman of color named Susan Dugue. She and Jacob had three children together, two daughters Spencena and Wilhelmina And one son, Joseph.]
