SHIRLEY JO GILBERT ~Don't grieve for me, for now I am free~ Shirley Jo Banks Gilbert passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, in her home surrounded by her family. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Forrest and Ruby Banks. Shirley was a lifetime resident of Riverside and graduated from both Polytechnic High School and Riverside Community College. Shirley was united in marriage on November 3, 1979, to her husband and best friend, Tye Gilbert. Although Shirley spent her career working in finance, lending, and collections, her true passion was for the arts and making all aspects of the world around her more beautiful. In her free time, she enjoyed painting, jewelry making, shopping, her pets, a glass of wine, the beach, and spending time with those she loved. Over the past two years, Shirley faced her battle with cancer with grace and dignity, and was an inspiration to us all. Although the illness took much from her physically, her elegance, sense of style, and zest for life remained untouched. She was a timeless beauty with a great sense of humor, a unique style of graciousness, and unyielding optimism. She is survived by her husband, Tye; her son, Chris Fogleman; grandchildren, Chad, Cierra, and Cody; cousin, Suzie (Rich) Larson; niece, Donya Robson; sisters-in-law, Candace (Jim) Nelms, Cindy Futrell, Christine (Doug) Evans, and Carolyn (Mark) Riffey; brothers-in-law, Guy Gilbert and Craig (Lisa) Gilbert; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and her beloved Westie named Ace. Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Suzanne Fogleman. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 11th at East Hills Community Church, 20660 Orange Terrace Parkway, Riverside, CA 92508 (951) 776-9111. Internment will be at Olivewood Cemetery immediately following the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Acheson & Graham Mortuary (951) 688-1221.
