Mr. Wagner was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a longtime resident of Auburn, retiring from the DeKalb County Central United School District in 1987 after teaching and coaching for 39 years. He earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana Central University and a master's degree from Ball State University.
Born Aug. 28, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio, to Maurice and Harriett Wagner, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Wagner.
Surviving are four children, Cindy Koehl of Fort Wayne, Steve Wagner of Wauseon, Ohio, Chip Wagner of Leo and Chris Wagner of Richmond, Va.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his wife, Marilyn Wagner of Sylvania, Ohio; three stepchildren, Chip Kohler of Columbus, Ohio, Becky Alexander of Herndon, Va., and Paul Kohler of Charlotte, N.C.; and 10 stepgrandchildren.
