Fred was born May 8, 1925 in Chicago, the son of Salvatore and Antonia Pumo Affrunti. He married Catherine "Kay" Palmieri on September 2, 1950 in Chicago.
Fred proudly served as a bombardier in the Army Air Force during WWII. After service, Fred graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with degree in mechanical engineering and earned his MBA from the University of Chicago. He was employed by Stewart-Warner Hobbs for 27 years, where he worked as a manager of manufacturing. He was a member of the Saturday Night Dance Club, American Legion, past President and member of the Rotary Club South, past President of the Junior Achievement of Springfield and Sangamon County, member of SCORE, and member of the Men's Senior Golf League. Fred enjoyed golfing, traveling, and dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rosaria Ciardella.
He is survived by his wife, Kay ; sons, Robert E. and Carl and Paul; daughter, Lisa ; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren,.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
