Eleanor Frances (Tilley) Adcox, age 93, of Palestine, Texas died May 1, 2004 in a local hospital. Burial was at Palestine City Cemetery, New Addition Annex Section under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. She was born October 25, 1910 in Jacksonville, Texas to Elmore Francis Tilley and Maud Wallace Tilley. Mrs. Adcox moved to Palestine at the age of two. She became a member of the First Baptist Church and remained a member her entire life. She was the church's organist for 59 years and also played the organ for many funerals in Palestine. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1926 at the age of 16, attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville for two years, then transferred to Texas Woman's University where she graduated with honors in 1930 with a Bachelor in Art. She received her Master's in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. She taught school in Corsicana, Texas, Woodville, Texas, and Palestine. She retired in 1977. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Guion Music Club. Mrs. Adcox was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Charles Haskell Adcox, in 1968. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Clay Lockett; grandchildren, Nancy Tool, and David Lockett; and great-grandchild, Lucas Brooks Tool.
