BARRE - Lawrence A. Abbiati, 77, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, in the Central Vermont Medical Center.
Born Aug. 25, 1930 in Barre, he was the son of Antonio E. and Eva N. (Nicora) Abbiati. He attended Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School. He attended Burdette College in Boston where he received a degree in accounting. From 1952 to 1954, he served in the United States Army in Greenland.
On July 4, 1980, he married Lorraine Fordham. They made their home in several Vermont communities including South Royalton and Barre.
For several years, he was a truck driver for the former Wark Brothers in South Barre. In earlier years, he attended the Barre Universalist Church, the Barre Elks # 1535 and the VFW MacKenzie-Webster Post 790 in Barre.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Abbiati of Barre; step-daughter, Linda York of Orleans; step-son, Joey Bushman of Braintree; an adopted step-son, Allen Williams of Orleans; two step-grandchildren; and several cousins.
His parents and a sister, Antoinette "Toni" Whitcomb, predeceased him.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. There are no calling hours.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, is in charge of the arrangements.
