Albert enlisted at Palmyra, Fluvanna County as a Private in Company "F", 44th Virginia Infantry on 20 May 1861. He was discharged under a surgeon's certificate of disability on 20 July 1861. (Note that he was no older than 16 when he enlisted, and may have lied about his age.)

Virginia military records also state that an "Albert G. Allegree", born at Hunters Lodge in Fluvanna County, enlisted from Charlottesville as a Private in Company "K", 2nd Virginia Cavalry on 15 April 1862, and transferred to Company "I", 59th Virginia Infantry on 15 April 1863. Though it seems likely, it is not clear if this is the same Albert.

He died age 19 of "Typhoid Pneumonia," per Cemetery records. and is buried in the William Allegre plot.
