Daughter of Mattie Lipe and J. Harvey Mashburn. She married Calvin Vernon Stack (1919-1988) on April 5, 1945. They had one son before divorcing. Her second marriage was to Sidney L. Abernathy which resulted in no children.

Following is an obituary excerpt from the Greensboro Daily News, May 12, 1974:

BENSON - Mrs. Lucy Mashburn Abernathy, 53, died Saturday at her home on Rt. 2.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Unity Presbyterian Church on Rt. 2, Newton Grove, with the rev. Earl Baker officiating. Burial will be at Wesminster Garden in Greensboro.

Surviving are a son, Calvin Stack Jr. of Greensboro; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Harvey Mashburn of Rt. 2, Benson; sisters, Mrs. Ed Johnson of Rt. 2, Glade Valley and Mrs. Troy Sutton of Greensboro.
