Then pastor of the First Universalist Church of Galesburg, was chairman of the Knox County Chapter of the Red Cross from December, 1916 to July 1, 1917. He resigned the chairmanship at the latter date on account of removing from Galesburg to Aurora, where he became pastor of the People's Church and State Superintendent of the Illinois Universalist Convention. In December, 1917 he was elected chairman of the Kane County Executive Committee of the Illinois State Council of Defence, which position he occupied until the close of the war. From the summer of 1918 to the close of the war he was chairman of the Aurora Board of Instruction for Selected Men.
