HAMPTON - Gilbert Newsome Askew Sr., 60, a native of Rich Square, N.C., and Peninsula resident for 28 years, died Monday, Oct. 28.
Mr. Askew was employed as a technician by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 13 years. He attended Grace Baptist Church.
Survived by his wife, Edna Ruth Askew; two daughters, Connie R. James of Virginia Beach and Judith D. Roundy of Hampton; a son, Gilbert N. Askew Jr. of Hampton; four sisters, Sarah L. Nelson, Betty L. Barnes and Patricia Crew of Rich Square and Sophie Curtis of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, James O. Askew of Rich Square; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Visitation from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home by the Rev. Kenneth Dudley. Burial in Parklawn Memorial Park.
