Corporal William Anderson, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment, Natal Native Contingent, was a patient in the hospital at Rorke's Drift during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. He was observed deserting the post, however, which resulted in his being shot and killed by another defender of Rorke's Drift despite not having received an order to exercise capital punishment.
