Raymond Hauglum Obituary

Raymond W. Hauglum 49 years of age, passed away August 13, 2008 following a sudden, devastating illness. Ray was a native Tucsonan, born here on May 24, 1959, to James Allen and Barbara B. Hauglum. Raymond was predeceased by his father, James A. Hauglum, and his maternal grandparents, H. P. and Bobbie Beachy, his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Flossie Hauglum. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Hansen (Lyle); his sister, Elaine Marie Dorsher (Robert); his brother, Lyle P. Hauglum; and his aunt, Cassina Tarsia of California. Also survived by his stepmother, Carol A. Hauglum, and her children, Christopher Haury and Lauren (Haury) Evans. He had many nieces and nephews in Tucson and in Minnesota. Kristene and Audrey Dorsher, Anthony and Sarah Evans and John Knopf, Christopher Haury, Jr. and Leah Ann Haury, as well as grand-nieces, Katelyn and Emmabelle Haury and Ryan James Evans. Raymond attended elementary school in Flowing Wells schools and also at Redeemer Lutheran School. He was a graduate of Flowing Wells High School and received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona. Raymond was most recently employed as a Captain (pilot) at Mesa Airlines. He loved flying, both in his job and in his Grumman Tiger airplane. He had served as a flight instructor at Double Eagle Aviation. As a private pilot, Ray helped Tucson youth by participating in the program called "Wright Flight". Students from middle schools in the area were encouraged to work hard in school and then given a chance to fly with a private pilot as a reward for their improved grades and effort. Ray was an accomplished horseman, and during his high school years often competed in Western riding and Jogging Cart shows with his Morgan horse, Sidney. At that time he was also an active member of the Future Farmers of America at Flowing Wells High School. He spent lots of time training his Black Labrador hunting dogs, Misty and Blackie, who often went hunting with Ray and his dad. Raymond will be sadly missed, as son, brother, uncle and friend to many. A memorial service will be held for him at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. followed by burial of Raymond's ashes at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 South Park Avenue.
