Alejandro (Alex) Polanco Sierra, Jr., of Hanover, New Mexico passed away October 10, 2008, after a long illness. Preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro and Francisca; siblings, Angelita, Manuela, Atanasia, Guadalupe, Gerarda, Jose, Gerturdes; daughter, Christina, and grandson, John-Travis. Alex is survived by his wife, Virginia of 56 years; his sister, Victoria of Bayard, New Mexico: children, Diane (Robert), Joe, John, and Frances; grandchildren, George, Wyatt (Terry), Carmen (Billy), Gabriel (Beth), Joseph, Joaquin, Monique (Cassey), Myriah and Wann and eight great-grandchildren. Alex represented his high school as a Boys State member and class Valedictorian. He was a combat engineer in the Army during the Korean War serving from 1953-1955. He retired from Magma copper mine in San Manuel after 39 years where he was an Essex supervisor. Alex enjoyed singing and listening to Mariachi music, serving in the church choir, and camping in New Mexico and Show Low with his many friends and family. He loved dancing and traveling to Laughlin, Las Vegas and especially to Mexico with his wife and friends. The love of his live was his grandchildren and great- grandchildren who will miss him dearly along with his many nieces and nephews. Serving as pall bears are: Danny Casteneda, Robert Rodela, Andy Lopez, Many Patino, Leandro Ortega, and Ruben Peru; honorary pall bearers are life long friends Luis Rameriz, Moy Perez, Joe Bertoldo, Alex Bertoldo, Juan Padilla, Arthur Holguin, and Ruben Rodriguez.
