GARDINER -- Phyllis Jean Heath 79 went home with the Lord her savior with her husband of 62 years holding her hand on Friday, March 16, 2007.
She was born in Gardiner on June 16, 1927, a daughter of Leroy and Ethel (Harrington) Newton. Phyllis was employed for 20 years at the VA Togus Dietetic Department, retiring to take care of her sister, Dorothy Newton.
She was predeceased by her sister and a brother, Edward Newton.
She is survived by her husband, James A. Heath of Gardiner; her loving children, Pauline Caron, Nancy Dodge and husband Ron, Betty Stevens, Jim Heath and wife Kelly; one cousin, Edith Harrington Breed and her husband, David; two sisters-in-law, Laura Childs of York and Connie Heath of Homestead, Fla.; grandchildren Debbie Heath, Ron Dodge Jr. and wife Jen, Jason and Amy Dodge, Tracey Stevens Wheeler and husband David, Garron and Becky Heath, Stacey and Ramon Badillo, Shelley and Steve Sirois, Gabe Caron, Mellisa Cahill, Robert and Kristina Heath, Carrie and Todd Cahill, Jamie and Jim Lancaster; 18 great-grandchildren; her best friend, Glennis Huntley, and many other family and friends.
A special thanks goes to the staff at Maine General who took such great care of our loved one.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday at Staples Funeral Home 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to St. Judes Hospital and American Diabetes Association
