Pvt Bogovich was sent overseas to the 82nd Airborne Division's Replacement Depot in Leicester, England.
On 12 September 1944 he was subsequently transferred to the Service Company, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment which was then posted at Sissonne, France. The 508th had suffered a number of losses during the Operation Market-Garden Campaign in Hollands and was rebuilding its regimental strength.
Pvt Bogovich was subsequently assigned to C Company on 8 December 1944. Only 10 days later the 508th was sent back into combat, this time in Belgium for what came to be known as the battle of The Bulge.
Later promoted to Pfc, Richard was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge for his participation in action during the Ardennes campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20 Feb 1945.
