James jumped into Normandy on D-Day (June 6, 1944) where he was wounded on June 28th. He recovered from the wound and jumped into Holland in September 1944 during Operation Market-Garden.
OBITUARY
Ramer, TN - James W. Allen, 81, paint contractor and former Germantown police chief, died Monday at King's Daughters & Sons Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. He was an Army veteran, and recipient of Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Distinguished Unit Medal. Mr. Allen, the husband of Joyce M. Allen, also leaves two daughters, Sara Ilsley of Pensacola, Fla., and Helen Nance of Ecru, Miss.; two sons, Larry Allen of Germantown and John Allen of Ramer; a sister, Peggy Long of Dallas, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
