Eddie served 21 years in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Rangers and the 82nd Airborne Division's 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

In 1968 and 1969, he was in the Vietnam War and served as a dog handler with the 42nd Dog Scout Platoon.

During his 21 years of duty he was stationed in Fort Benning, GA; Kumamoto, Japan, Ft. Campbell, KY; Bangkok, Thailand; Fort Carson, CO; Minneapolis, MN; Lima, Peru and Nashville, AR. He was awarded numerous Army Commendation medals, the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.

He completed more than 100 parachute jumps with the U.S. Airborne Forces, he was entitled to wear the gold Master Parachute wing and was a lifetime member of the Century Club.
