Robert M. Burdett, age 79, of Three Forks died Nov. 17, 2010, at Fort Harrison Veterans Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Burdett was born on May 9, 1931, in Missoula and grew up in Logan, the second son of the late Lawrence Burdett and Bertha Mae Simmert Burdett.

After graduating from Manhattan High School, Robert served four years with the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. Serving in a LCU squadron as an electrician’s mate, third class, Robert earned the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (1 star) and the China Service Medal.

After the war, he worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad as a signalman for more than 25 years and retired from the merged Burlington Northern Railroad. Mr. Burdett was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Burdett is survived by his wife, Janet Creecy Burdett of Manhattan; three sons, Robert Burdett of Cheyenne, Wyo., Terry Burdett of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Patrick Burdett of Boise, Idaho. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Adam, Nick, David, Ashley, Robbie and Gavin Burdett; and four great-grandchildren: Faith, Tahlia, Nadia and Makiah Burdett. Robert is also survived by a brother, Joseph Burdett, and sister, Joan Burdett Curtis.

His older brother, Lawrence Burdett, preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Home in Bozeman. Interment will be in a family plot at Willow Creek Cemetery in Willow Creek at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
